Training on Auto Belay with Neil Gresham 6-week training plans COMING SOON! Whilst auto belays are incredibly simple and fun to use, you still need to have your wits about you at all times. Don't get so into the zone with your training that you forget about the safety fundamentals. The main auto belay self check is to make sure that the carabiner is securely attached to your belay loop and that...
Practicing Lead Climbing on Auto Belay
Переглядів 2414 годин тому
Training on Auto Belay with Neil Gresham 6-week training plans COMING SOON! One of the differences with climbing an auto belay is that you're going to be moving at a continuous pace, whereas when you're leading you need to stop and clip quick draws. And clearly this is something that requires practice. You can easily simulate clipping when climbing an auto belay simply by pausing every second o...

    I was taught to move the tether to the gated side of the carabiner before hooking into the harness so that if the belay slips out of the climbers hands it is still attached to the climber and won't retract to the top of the wall. Would that be correct?

    Topas is a real modern gap in the market for single climbers training endurance by senting the same route 10 - 20 times without any pause. For sure the route is easy ! :)

    What is stopping the pin from unscrewing over time? Most industrial lifting equipment would have some kind of split-pin safety pin to make it impossible for the pin to come out. Got me worried about climbing on an autobelay watching this...

    Excited for the technology but god this is an awful ad... "the way of the rock" is cringe, especially about a plastic wall. Kinda like "the way of the mountain" as you use a stairmaster. :)

    Product suggestion: Affordable micro auto belays on rails above indoor bouldering walls because as a 43 year old beginner, downclimbing is not always possible and I'm pretty sure I'm going to damage my (back/knees/ankles) jumping down in the near future.

    Cool concept! How would you lower to the ground if you can't top the route?

    • @Headrushtech
      @Headrushtech 3 роки тому

      Hi Adam - great question! The hold only lasts up to 30 seconds, after which you'll be smoothly lowered to the ground if you do not resume climbing. In other words, the hold functionality times out after 30 seconds so you don't get stuck on the wall.

    • @selyam2596
      @selyam2596 3 роки тому

      What expand are the rotor arms and they can do that because of strings. I hope that helps but I didn't really understand your question.

    0:45 now if a device is not properly maintained, and say rust/dust builds up in the aluminum rotor arms such that they are not able to expand when they spin, will the device break a fall? Or will the climber break their legs? ?just curious =) this is by far the most reliable tech today on climbing auto belays, clearly superior than the old hydraulic or mechanical break tech, but doesn't mean it will never fail or has any flaws.

    • @haphaeu

      @@aviren340 See the video at 0:48, the grey rods are "expanding", or moving outwards, increasing their radii, and hence getting more into the magnetic field.

      @@chrisw1462 you tend to get galvanic corrosion at pivots due to dissimilar metals... but seeing as lube, teflon bushes, whatever would fix that, i expect one could almost chuck one of these in a swamp for a decade or two with no issue. theres nothing in there to break, wear out, go obsolete other than the main shaft bearing. as for the original question... braking force will be reduced, but i doubt its catastrophic. even at the smallest diameter it still provides a reasonable braking force, and as the speed increases, the braking force increases as well... the arms fling out due to centrifugal forces. the higher the weight, the faster it falls. so the arms fling out further, the larger radius not only maybe links with more flux, but has a HIGHER VELOCITY as it passes the magnet. and as EMF is proportional to flux density AND velocity, or rate of change of magnetic flux. get the mass of the weights correct, the location of the pivot and the center of pressure of the weight, with the amount of lenz reaction at various diameters, and you get a relatively linear response. the same thing can be done axially, adjusting the gap between magnetic poles and conductor, but this is neat as it makes the conductor the governor itself, with no extra fiddly bits... it would also work the other way, a solid conductor with the magnets mounted on the weights... if one say, wanted to convey the heat produced away...
